Eagles, Saints Play to 2-2 Draw

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. ? Despite playing 110 minutes of play, neither Embry-Riddle nor Flagler was able to claim a win as they played to a 2-2 tie in men's soccer action on Tuesday night at Flagler Field. The 11th-ranked Eagles now stand at 1-1-1 on the year, while the Saints move to 0-2-1.

The Saints had the run of play in the first half, outshooting the Eagles 13-1. They finally broke through in the 29th minute. Viktor Bergstrand thwarted back-to-back shot attempts, pushing the second shot on frame to the right for a Flagler corner kick. Boris Kalff finished Connor Killeen's cross from the corner to put the Saints up 1-0.

The Saints increased their lead just seven minutes later when Killeen picked off an errant Eagle pass and slotted it past Bergstrand for a two-goal lead heading into the halftime break.

The Eagle offense picked up its intensity in the second half, taking 17 shots while the defense held the Saints to just two shot attempts.

The offensive pressure eventually paid off as Joe Yoffe pulled the Eagles back within a goal 17 minutes into the second half. A Flagler miscue allowed Yoffe to run onto the ball and after winning the foot race against the last defender, he netted his third goal of the season to make the score 2-1.

Yoffe had a hand in the equalizer in the 77th minute. A series of one-touch passes fell to the junior inside the 18-yard box. Flagler goalkeeper Josiah Holtz got a hand to Yoffe's left-footed rocket but pushed the ball into the path of AJ Barrett who slotted home his second goal of the year to tie the game.

The Eagles' best chance for the game-winner came with just four minutes remaining in regulation. The Blue and Gold controlled much of the possession in the middle of the field and eventually got the ball to Barrett in front of the goal. But his shot sailed just wide of the goal and with neither team able to find the back of the net in regulation, the match went into overtime.

Flagler held a 5-3 edge in shots in overtime, but neither team was able to capitalize resulting in the 2-2 draw.

Both Bergstrand and Holtz came up with big saves for their teams as they finished with eight and seven saves, respectively.

The Eagles next match will be against conference foe Northwood on Friday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
