DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? Senior Lindsey Kurtz won a three-set battle at the fourth position to clinch the ninth-ranked Embry-Riddle (11-6) women's tennis team's 5-1 win over Northwood (9-6) in the second semifinal of the 2008 NAIA Region XIV tournament at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles advanced to the regional title match for the fourth year in a row. They will take on top-seeded Savannah College of Art and Design at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Eagles went up 2-1 after doubles play as Natasa Zoricic and Hana Im defeated Mika Seger and Fiorella Moggia 8-4 and Kurtz and Natalie Anaya topped Alejandra Ripoll and Adriana Herran 8-5. The Seahawks got a win back at No. 3 doubles as Didi Jurman and Michelle Aybar squeaked by Marga Rico Jimenez and Sara Abraúl 9-8 (7-5).
Abraúl was the first to wrap up a singles win for the Eagles as she downed Svensson 6-1 6-2 at the No. 6 spot. Zoricic increased the Eagle advantage to 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Seger at the No. 1 position.
At the No. 4 spot, Kurtz won the first set 6-3 but faltered in the second set 6-2. In the third set Kurtz went up 4-1 before closing out the match with a 6-2 victory to improve her overall record to 11-10 on the year.
