Eastern Kentucky Edges Embry-Riddle 4-3

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team put forth a valiant effort in singles  play, but it was not enough to overcome a one-point deficit tallied by NCAA I Eastern Kentucky, resulting in a 4-3 win in favor of the Colonels on Tuesday. The Colonels are now 11-3 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 2-4.

Myriem Mhirit and Nadja Barz notched the first doubles win for the Colonels with an 8-2 decision against Sara Abraul and Marga Rico Jimenez at No. 3. The ERAU duo of Natasa Zoricic and Hana Im battled back from a 5-2 deficit to tie the score at 6-6. But EKU's Anouk Favre and Jemma Evers held serve and scored a break to win the match 8-6. Alex Sitnikova and Svetlana Pimenova completed EKU's doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Mathilda Engstrom and Julija Stojkovska.

The Eagles pulled ahead 2-1 after Hana Im defeated Barz 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Natasa Zoricic downed Sitnikova 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot. But the Colonels reclaimed the lead with wins at the third and fourth positions as Mhirrt bested Stojkovska 6-0, 6-2 and Favre topped Engstrom 6-0, 6-3.

Abraul defeated Anais Hamel 7-6 (3), 2-6, 10-7 at the sixth spot, but it was not enough to get by the Colonels who sealed the win when Evers clinched earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Rico Jimenez at No. 5.

The Eagles play their next match at home on Thursday against Northern Illinois. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
