No. 5 Eagles Clinch Sun Conference Regular Season Crown in Convincing Sweep

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle volleyball team hit a staggering .556 in a convincing 3-0 sweep (25-6, 25-11, 25-9) of Northwood on Thursday night at the ICI Center. The win improves ERAU's record to 24-4 and 11-0 in conference, and clinching the Eagles' fourth consecutive Sun Conference Regular Season championship. Northwood drops to 8-20, 3-8 in conference play.
 
The Blue and Gold dominated throughout the match, holding the lead for the entirety of the first and third sets. Northwood's only lead of the match was 1-0 in the second set. In the end, ERAU outhit the Seahawks, .556 to .069.
 
ERAU jumped out front in a big way, scoring the first 12 points of the match. Taylor Martin scored three service aces and Abby Hall put down five kills during the run. A kill from Jordan Holcomb increased the lead to 18-2, and an ace from Hall bumped it up to 22-3. Martin finally closed out the set at 25-6 in favor of the Eagles, who hit .810 as a team in the set.
 
After surrendering the first point of the second set to Northwood, Embry-Riddle rattled off 13 out of 16 points to take a 13-4 lead. Martin collected three straight kills in the middle of that run, which seemed to take the life out of the Seahawks. Gloria Kemp put down a kill to give ERAU a 17-8 lead, and Hall recorded another kill to extend the lead to 21-10. Morgan Shattuck was the one to end the set, picking up a kill to give ERAU a 25-11 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
A pair of Seahawk errors helped the Eagles to take a 5-1 lead early in the third set. The lead blossomed to 13-4 after a service ace from Hall, and increased to 17-5 on a service ace from Nina Kontrec. Alison Wade put down a kill to build the margin to 21-8 and Holcomb closed out the match with a thundering kill, giving the Eagles a 25-9 win in the set and a 3-0 win in the match, preserving ERAU's unblemished conference record of 33-0 in sets played this season.
 
Hall led the Eagles with 15 kills and hit .591 in addition to serving five aces. Martin added nine kills (.412 hitting percentage) along with seven digs and three service aces, while Holcomb collected six kills and a match-high .667 hitting percentage. Kontrec picked up a match-high eight digs while Adriana Vazquez collected 26 assists and Erin McIntyre totaled 10 assists.
 
Caitlin Barsumian led the Seahawks with five kills and a .444 hitting percentage, while Natalie Harville added three kills. Sydney Fratarcangeli registered a team-high 11 assists as well as a team-high five digs.
 
The Eagles will close out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Ave Maria at 2 p.m. Saturday's match will be Senior Day for the Eagles, as seniors Abby Hall, Julia Frassetto and Nina Kontrec will be honored prior to the match.
