Eagles Clinch Conference Regular Season Title Behind Martin’s 22 Kills

Taylor Martin's 22 kills are tied for fourth-most in a three-set match in ERAU volleyball history
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Led by Taylor Martin's 22 kills, the sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle volleyball team knocked off Webber International in three sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-13) Friday night, clinching the school's fourth consecutive regular season conference championship.
 
With the win, ERAU improves to 25-4 overall and 9-0 in conference, while Webber falls to 17-11 and 8-2 in league play.
 
The Eagles dominated the first set from the start, outhitting WIU .282 to -.031 in the frame. Embry-Riddle opened the set on a 7-2 run and built the lead to seven points on a 4-0 run capped by a Gloria Kemp and Emily Jacobson block that put the home team ahead, 16-9. The Blue and Gold closed the set on a 3-0 run and Martin's seventh kill of the stanza gave ERAU a 25-15 win.
 
The second set saw Embry-Riddle rattle off a 6-0 run keyed by four Martin kills to pull away from the Warriors, 11-5. Back-to-back Martin kills pushed the lead to 20-12 and the Blue and Gold went on to take the set, 25-17, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
With Martin at the service line to open the third set, ERAU jumped out to a 6-0 lead early and never looked back. A kill from Martin grew the lead to 9-1 and back-to-back blocks from Jacobson and Morgan Shattuck capped a 6-0 run that saw Embry-Riddle move in front, 19-10. The match ended on a pair of Warrior errors with ERAU taking the third set, 25-13, and sweeping the match, 3-0.
 
Martin led all players with 22 kills, tying for the fourth-most kills in a three-set match in ERAU history. She also hit .488 and added eight digs. Holcomb contributed nine kills and 10 digs while Kemp hit .875 with seven kills in eight attempts to go along with five blocks (one solo). Adriana Vazquez tallied a match-high 39 assists and 12 digs while Hannah Gray picked up a match-high 16 digs.
 
Shanice Van Der Sloot led the Warriors with five kills while Katie Lindstrom picked up a team-high 15 digs and a team-high 16 assists.
 
The Eagles will wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a Senior Day match against Warner at 2 p.m. Seniors Jordan Holcomb, Gloria Kemp, Taylor Martin and Adriana Vazquez will be honored prior to the match.
