Third-Ranked Eagles Finish Tied for Third at 23rd Annual Eagle Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The No. 3 Embry-Riddle women's golf team jumped from sixth to third with a final round of 311 Tuesday at the 23rd Annual Eagle Invitational at LPGA International. The Eagle women took nine strokes off of their first round of 320, knocked down a total of 20 birdies and finished the tournament tied for third with a 36-hole total of 631 (320-311).

Fabys Barreto-Guzman paved the way for the Eagles for the second day in a row at the tournament. The senior, fired a team low even-par 72 on the final day of play and came in the clubhouse tied for second out of 84 competitors. The Caracas, Venezuela native had the best par four scoring average (4.05), knocked down five birdies and had 24 pars on the challenging LPGA International Champions course.

Connie Pitenis also put together a solid showing for the Blue and Gold. Pitenis fired a five-over par 77 in the final round and ended the tournament with a 158 (81-77), tied for 18th overall. The Daytona Beach, Fla. native was tied for fourth in par five scoring with a 4.88 average. 

Bea Serra, Pia Jenko and Heather Wiquist rounded out the Embry-Riddle lineup. Serra, who knocked down five birdies on the tournament, finished tied for 36th with a score of 163 (81-82). Jenko and Wiquist finished two strokes back of Serra, tied for 42nd, with a 165. Jenko shot 81-84, while Wiquist came away with an 85-80.

Charlotte Orren also competed as an individual for the Blue and Gold. The true freshman finished tied for 68th and shot 178 (89-89). 

NCAA II Lynn University (298-309=607) won the 15-team, 84 player tournament by 20 strokes over second place No. 6 William Woods University (307-320=627). Bethune-Cookman (322-309=631) finished tied for third with the Eagles and No. 11 SCAD Savannah (316-317=633) finished fifth.

The Eagle women will be back in action in just three days as they travel to Crystal River, Fla. for the Cincinnati Spring Invite hosted by the University of Cincinnati and Plantation Inn.
