Rams Edge Eagles 2-1

Veit Couturier netted the Eagles' only goal against Mobile
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Mobile men's soccer team scored two goals in the second half of play to take a 2-1 victory over Embry-Riddle, Saturday at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The 21st-ranked Rams were a goal behind after the first 45 minutes, but scored both goals in quick succession to improve their overall record to 4-1-1.

The first half did not lack for chances to score as both teams combined for 16 shots, with ERAU holding a 9-7 edge.

In the 14th minute, Ally MacDonald had a scoring opportunity on a breakaway, but his shot was stopped by the Rams' goalkeeper Elijah Gibson. Over the next few minutes, Mobile's Chris Dillon, Gaeten Massiah and Alvaro Pichardo forced ERAU goalkeeper Nils Carlson to make several saves of his own and the work of both Carlson and his Mobile counterpart kept the game scoreless through much of the first frame.

With just 1:45 left in the first half, the Eagles were finally able to break the deadlock. After receiving a pass on the right side of the field, Nicklas Petersson dribbled through the heart of midfield and completed diagonal pass to Veit Couturier on the run. Couturier took a couple of touches before rifling a shot into the lower right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Rams netted the equalizer early in the second half when Dillon headed home a Massiah corner kick to make the score 1-1 in the 46th minute.

Less than eight minutes later, Massiah was on the receiving end of a Samuel Blackburn cross and he buried his fourth shot of the night to give Mobile a 2-1 lead.

Despite outshooting the Rams 13-7 in the second half, the Eagles were unable to register another goal, moving their overall record to 1-4 on the year.

The Eagles will open Sun Conference Play at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to West Palm Beach to take on NAIA No. 25 Northwood
