Eagles Place 16th at NAIA National Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The No. 14 Embry-Riddle men's cross country team had a strong showing at the NAIA National Championships in Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday. With temperatures in the 20s, the Eagle men finished in 16th place out of 30 teams with 471 total points.
 
The 2013 Sun Conference Runner of the Year, Vincent Bett led the Eagles for the fifth meet in a row, finishing in a time of 25:23 in 45th place. All-Sun Conference first team member, freshman Paul McKenna was the second-fastest Eagle with a time of 25:40 in 77th place. Junior Alec Hernandez finished in 123rd place in 26:09, while Senior Zachary Kraus, another All-Sun Conference first team member, ended his Eagle cross country career with a 136th place finish in 26:14. Junior Jacob Dordick rounded out the Eagle scorers in 253rd place in 27:23.
 
Also competing for the Eagles was Ryan Larson who clocked in at 27:38, and Jamin Mays who finished in 27:53.
 
The National Championship meet ends a successful 2013 cross country season for the Blue and Gold. This season the Eagles had four first-place, a second place and a third place team finishes.
 
Oklahoma City won the National Championship with 77 total points and four runners earning All-American honors. Southern Oregon had the individual National Champion, Eric Avila, and finished in second with 124 total points. Emmanuel (Ga.) placed in third with 148 total points, while defending champion St. Francis (Ill.) and Aquinas rounded out the top five with 157 and 185 total points respectively.
