WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered a tough 8-1 loss to NCAA II No. 13 Rollins, Tuesday at Rollins' Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex. The Tars won two of three doubles matches and swept singles play to improve their overall record to 2-0, while the Eagles drop to 1-3.
Doubles action saw Ashley Loft and Callie Whitlock hold off
Paola Montero and
Giovanna Tomiotto 8-6 at No. 2, and Carli Davis and Mariana Salvador top
Meena Bennett and Ana Gonzalez 8-5 at the third spot. The Eagles' scored their only team point of the match at No. 1 doubles where
Kristina Marova and
Hui-I Huang bested Elissa DeCampli and Ashley Rosenberg 8-4.
The Tars earned straight set wins at the second through sixth positions, but at the top singles spot, Marova rebounded from a 6-0 first-set loss to DeCampli to win the second 6-3 and force a decisive third set. Marova battled hard, but in the end DeCampli was able to pull out a 6-4 win in the final set to take the match.
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. when they host Barry at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
