TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis celebrated wins in three matches on the first day of the inaugural ITA DII Individual Championships on Wednesday. The Eagles will feature one singles player and two doubles teams in the Round of 16 when tournament play resumes on Thursday.

With inclement weather moving through the area on Wednesday, the opening singles rounds were moved to indoor courts at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center. Daniela Fernandez Junquera notched the first win of the day when she rallied for a three-set victory over Lubbock Christian's Andrea De Bernardo. Fernandez Junquera trailed 1-4 to start the first set but won five games in a row to take the set 6-4. De Bernardo managed a 6-3 win in the second, but Fernandez Junquera outlasted her opponent 10-6 in the super tiebreaker to advance.

Amelie Gindl also took the court in singles, but was unable to get by University of Charleston's Pimlaphat Lim, falling 6-1, 6-4.

Gindl and Fernandez Junquera returned to the outdoor courts later in the day for doubles play. Fernandez Junquera and Benedetta Sensi dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Chestnut Hill's Lilian Bandel Elena Arenas Guisasola.

Gindl teamed up with Laura Cuesta Bret for a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Charliz Tabili Ifigenia Kafka.
