DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team evened its record at 6-6 with a convincing 7-2 victory over 14th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist. The Lady Bison fell to 5-7 with the loss.
The Blue and Gold got on the board first as Paolo Montero and
Giovanna Tomiotto handled Mariana Rosa and Camden Rodriguez, winning 8-1 on the second doubles court. OBU knotted things up at 1-1 when Ashlynn Abbe and Elisa Brito outlasted
Ana Gonzalez-Hoy and
Meena Bennett at No. 3 doubles, 9-7. The fourth-ranked duo of Hui-l Huang and
Kristina Marova gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead after doubles play with an 8-6 victory over Anastasyia Baranova and Lilian Fereirra in the top doubles match.
Bennett was the first to finish in singles play, defeating Kelsi Lord at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Huang gave ERAU a 4-1 lead by quickly defeating Baranova, the No. 6 singles player in the nation, 6-4, 6-1 at the top singles position. Marova clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the No. 15 singles player, Ferreira, at position two.
Montero easily dispatched of Rosa at No. 3 singles, winning 12 straight games to claim a 6-3, 6-0 win. Tomiotto needed a tiebreaking third set to defeat Brito at position four, eventually earning a 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory. Gonzalez-Hoy fell to Abbe in the final singles match at position five, 6-7, 7-6, 10-5.
The Eagles return to the Crotty Tennis Complex on Wednesday, Mar. 20 for an 11 a.m. match against the NCAA I UConn.
