Eagles Blank Royals in Regular Season Finale, 5-0

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team posted a strong finish in its regular season finale with a 5-0 shutout of Warner (6-7, 3-6), Sunday at the Lady Royals' home field.

The win was the 11th in a row and the sixth shutout for an Eagle squad that improved to 15-1 on the year and wrapped play in The Sun Conference with a perfect 9-0 league record.

"This was a good way to finish out the season," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon commented. "I thought Warner came out and played hard as we expected.  I was especially pleased with how we played in the second half.  Our tempo and attacking was much better.  Overall, we are excited to win the North Division and get to play in the regular season championship."

Freshman Julia Karlernas finished with four points on a goal and two assists for the Eagles who took a season-high 32 shots and limited the Lady Royals to just five shots in the contest. The Eagles also registered their highest corner kick total of the year with 15, while not surrendering a single corner kick to Warner.

After dominating the possession in the opening frame, including three shots in the first six minutes, the Eagles got on the scoreboard courtesy of a set piece. Kristin Sverrisdottir triggered the play with her second corner kick of the game, which was met by Karlernas who kept the play alive with her header. The ball made its way to Emmie Johansson who, with her back to goal, finished the play with a back heel into the left corner to put the Blue and Gold up 1-0 just under 10 minutes into the contest.

At the 14:22 mark, following another Eagles' corner kick, the Lady Royals were called for handling the ball inside the penalty area and Khyla Brangman converted on her second penalty kick attempt of the year to increase the Eagle advantage to 2-0, and they took that lead into the halftime break.

The Eagles' third goal came 12 minutes into the second half when Karlernas played Isabelle Haaranen through, and Haaranen deked her defender to create one-v-one situation with keeper before netting her 11th goal of the year.

In the 72nd minute, Karlernas got on the scoreboard herself when she finished an Annie Gelnaw cross for her sixth goal of the year.

While the Eagles had the game firmly in hand, they did not let up offensively and that resulted in their final goal in the 83rd minute. Just after taking a corner kick, Gudrun Johnson found herself in position to receive a pass from Haaranen. Johnson dribbled along the end line before cutting in and firing a shot across the face of goal and into the far side netting for her first goal of the year, sealing the 5-0 victory.

As the winners of the North Division the ERAU women's soccer team will take on Northwood in The Sun Conference regular season championship game on Nov. 5.
