@ERAUMSoccer Shuts Out Visiting Lions in 4-0 Sun Conference Victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team now owns a winning streak after Saturday's 4-0 shutout of Florida Memorial at ERAU Soccer Stadium. The Eagles (2-2-2, 2-1-0) recorded their second consecutive four-goal match while Nils Carlson and the Blue and Gold defense picked up their first clean sheet of the 2014 campaign. The Lions (5-4-0, 2-1-0) fell behind in the eighth minute and could never recover, putting just four shots on frame in the loss.

Embry-Riddle will look to stretch their streak to three straight on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on Southeastern at 7 p.m.

Sophomore Viktor Hafsteinsson registered his first career goal with 7:24 on the clock in the opening moments of Saturday's contest, heading home a corner kick from Daniel Gylfason that was redirected by Magnus Magnusson for a 1-0 Embry-Riddle advantage.

The Lions had the majority of the possession in the first half of the opening period, but Hafsteinsson's goal held up as the ERAU defense continually turned away the Florida Memorial offense.

Veit Couturier extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with a 40th minute tally, creating a great opportunity for himself with a tremendous first touch, beating his defender and eventually Pablo Terminiello in goal for FMU to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team.

The shots were even after the first half (9-9) in a physical contest that featured 35 combined fouls and seven yellow cards as well as a red card.

Embry-Riddle came out of the halftime break, putting their imprint on the game and Hafsteinsson was able to return the favor in the 59th minute by making a perfect, 50-yard pass to Gylfason who used his speed to beat the FMU defense and finished past Tobias Feurer for his third goal of the year and a 3-0 lead for the Eagles.

Rough play continued in the game and with just nine minutes remaining, the Lions were forced to go a man down after Jos Vidal Bazterrica was issued a second yellow card and was dismissed from the match.

ERAU kept the pressure up and freshman Lewis Blackmore finalized the scoring for the Eagles with a magnificent diving header in the 88th minute after Gylfason crossed the ball from the right side of the pitch to his classmate Blackmore and the Poole, England native did the rest for his first score of the season and a 4-0 ERAU lead.

Carlson was rarely tested in net, making four saves in the win, and moving his career shutout total to 22, the most in ERAU program history.
