Eva Vilar clinched the Eagles' shutout win over Northwestern Ohio
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched its first shutout of 2014, after blanking No. 23 Northwestern Ohio 9-0, Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The victory improved the Eagles' overall record 7-4 on the year, while the Racers fall to 8-7 with the loss.

The top-ranked tandem of Kristina Marova and Hui-I Huang wasted little time notching the Eagles' first point of the afternoon, blanking Racquel Marques and Shaleigh Mclintock 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. The contest at No. 3 doubles saw Paula Ortiz Couder and Eva Vilar top Andrea Arango and Lina Ramas 8-5, and Anna Götz and Paola Montero completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 decision against Viktoria Zahorulko and Kateryna Bondarenko.

Singles play saw the Eagles surrender three points or less in four of the six singles contests. No. 20 Götz grabbed the first singles point of the day with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Arango at on court two. The clinching point for the Blue and Gold came at No. 4 singles where Vilar bested Mclintock 6-2, 6-0 for her seventh win of the season.

No. 1 singles saw 17th-ranked Huang triumph over Zahorulko 6-1, 6-2 and Meena Bennett, playing in her fourth dual match of the year, evened her record a 2-2 with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ramas at the sixth spot.

The last two matches off the court were hard-fought, straight-set wins for the Eagles. At the third position, No. 37 Marova took the first set 6-3 and held off a strong rally from Marques to take the second 7-5. Playing her second match of the year at the fifth position, Ortiz Couder battled to a 7-5 win against Bondarenko in the first set and extended her overall record to a team-best 11-3 with a 6-2 win in the second set to close out the scoring.

The Eagles return to the court on Wednesday to host NCAA II No. 8 St. Leo at 3 p.m.
