DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Led by 31 digs from
Hannah Gray and 15 kill from
Jennifer Beatty, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Flagler, 25-17, 25-22, 25-12. The win improves the Eagles to 4-6 while the Saints fall to 5-5.
Gray's 31 digs were a match-high, as were Beatty's 15 kills.
Evelina Abdurakhmanova put down 11 kills while
Ana Pajic tallied nine kills and 11 digs.
Tamires Ferreira collected 14 digs and a match-high 39 assists.
Megan Hooks and Sara Davis each registered a team-high seven kills for the Saints, who hit just .085 in the match. Ashley Lechleidner picked up a team-high 13 digs and Amelia Morgan tallied 22 assists.
The Eagles didn't struggle much in the first set, leading for nearly the entire frame. A 5-0 run put the Blue and Gold ahead 11-4 and a 4-0 spurt made it 16-6. Flagler chipped away at the deficit but couldn't close the gap to any less than seven points. Pajic put down the final kill to finish the set, 25-17.
Set two was much closer, as the Saints led for 16 points in the middle of the set. Embry-Riddle rallied back, ending the frame on a 9-3 run to turn a 19-16 deficit into a 25-22 victory.
The late comeback in set two created a wave of momentum that the Eagles rode throughout the third set, running away with it early. ERAU held a 10-1 lead that eventually grew to 19-7 after a 4-0 run capped by a kill from
Ella Duggan.
Erika Hinel finished off the match with her fifth kill of the match, giving the Eagles a 25-12 win in set three, completing the 3-0 sweep.
Embry-Riddle returns to Sun Conference action on Friday, Sept. 19 with a 7 p.m. contest at Northwood. On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Eagles will visit Ave Maria at 2 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available at erauathletics.com/live.
