WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A balanced offensive attack allowed the Embry-Riddle volleyball team to cruise to a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-16, 25-21) at Northwood on Friday night. Six Eagles had at least five kills and the Blue and Gold hit .368 as a team while limiting the Seahawks to a .098 hitting percentage.
Jennifer Beatty led all players with 12 kills while
Ana Pajic and
Evelina Abdurakhmanova each added seven.
Hannah Gray picked up a match-high 14 digs and
Tamires Ferreira tallied a match-leading 35 assists.
Nikki McKown led the Seahawks with eight kills and eight digs. Sydney Fish added six kills and Nicole Papineau racked up 22 assists.
Embry-Riddle (5-6, 2-1) and Northwood (8-7, 2-2) exchanged sideouts for the first 16 points of the match before ERAU went on a 10-4 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Eagles continued to pull away from that point, eventually taking the first set, 25-14, after winning the final six points of the frame.
The Blue and Gold scored four of the first five points of set two to take an early lead and the Eagles never looked back. A kill from Beatty sparked a 6-0 run midway through the set that pushed the advantage to 20-11 and Beatty later closed out the set with another kill, giving ERAU a 25-16 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Following the 10-minute intermission between sets two and three, Embry-Riddle maintained its momentum from the first two sets, jumping out to a 7-3 lead early in the third set. A 7-2 spurt built the lead up to 17-9 and a Ferreira service ace pushed it to a 23-15 Eagle advantage. Northwood rallied with a 6-1 run to close the gap to just three points (24-21), but Abdurakhmanova finished the set and match with her seventh kill, ending the set at 25-21 and completing the 3-0 sweep.
