@ERAUVolleyball Knocks Off Ave Maria, 3-0

AVE MARIA, Fla. – For the second consecutive day the Embry-Riddle volleyball team put together an efficient and balanced offensive attack, hitting .453 while six Eagles racked up at least five kills, leading the Blue and Gold to a 3-0 sweep (25-7, 25-20, 25-9) at Ave Maria on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, ERAU evens its record at 6-6, 3-1 in conference, while the Gyrenes slip to 1-9, 0-4 in league play.
 
Ana Pajic and Cheye-Anne Savage led all players with nine kills each, while Jennifer Beatty tallied eight kills. Hannah Gray picked up 13 digs to lead the match, while Tamires Ferreira racked up 33 assists to go along with six kills.
 
Hannah Wurster led AMU with six kills and Lexy Smith chipped in five. Jessica Schein registered 17 assists and Mary Eckard totaled seven digs.
 
Set one was relatively close until the Eagles went on a tear, scoring 15 of the final 16 points to win the frame, 25-7. Embry-Riddle outhit Ave Maria in the set .435 to -.161.
 
In the second set, AMU held slim leads of 3-1 and 5-3 early, but ERAU didn't let the margin grow any larger than two points. Evelina Abdurakhmanova put down kills on three straight points to give Embry-Riddle a 17-14 lead, and the Eagles didn't trail for the rest of the set. The Gyrenes stayed close, but ERAU took the set, 25-20.
 
Embry-Riddle jumped out in front early in set three, taking an 8-2 lead after back-to-back Pajic kills. A Savage kill built the advantage to 10 points (16-6) and the Blue and Gold closed out the match with eight straight points to win the set, 25-9, completing the 3-0 sweep.
 
The Eagles are on the road again next weekend with road conference tilts at Webber International on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and at Warner on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available at erauathletics.com/live.
