@ERAUMSOCCER Falters at Home in 2-0 Loss to Saint Leo

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team went up against Saint Leo on Saturday night. The Eagles suffered a loss to the visiting Lions, 2-0. With the defeat, ERAU falls to 2-7 on the year while Saint Leo is now 6-4.

The game began with Saint Leo taking on much of the possession. The Lions tested goalkeeper Jeff Bone forcing him to make two saves in the first eight minutes of action.

The Eagles registered their first shot of the game in the 20th minute. The home side was awarded a free kick with Pierre Hertin taking the chance from about 30 yards out. He sent the ball in high but Lion goalkeeper James White easily caught it.

Hertin created another chance later in the half for the Eagles. Daniel Gylfason fed a pass to Hertin on the left side, who then slid it across the box to Felix Lohmeyer. Before Lohmeyer could get a shot off, White again collected the ball to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Following a corner kick in the 31st minute, the Eagles had an opportunity to take the lead. Ali Amiri had a shot blocked that deflected to Lohmeyer's feet. Lohmeyer was then able to control the ball and cross it through the penalty area to Tobias Gerber. Much was the story of the night however, White intercepted the cross in the air just as Gerber was about to get a foot on it.

In the 43rd minute, the Lions broke the score line with Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel's ninth goal of the year. He found the back of the net by heading in a throw in from teammate Matt Campbell.

With the 1-0 lead coming out of the break, the Lions pressing forward. Bone again made two great saves just three minutes in the second half to keep ERAU's comeback hopes alive.

The best chance for the Eagles in the period came in the 64th minute. Birgir Baldursson got on the end of a cross and headed it towards net but it sailed just wide of the left post.

The visiting Lions were able to seal the win in the 83rd minute as Schulze-Geisthovel again found the back of the net. He fired in a cross from Yuga Yanagisawa to put Saint Leo up 2-0.

Embry-Riddle goes on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 21 for its next contest. The Eagles face off against No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic at 7pm.
