DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite outscoring the Tars 24-18 in the third quarter to make it a two-point game, the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team couldn't complete the comeback, falling to Rollins by a score of 63-54 on Wednesday night.
Kalah Martin led all players with 14 points and had a team-high three assists.
Sabrina Whiting chipped in nine points while
Mercedes Jorge tallied eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Blue and Gold opened the game on a 6-2 run but the Tars quickly rallied back to take a 10-8 lead with 5:32 left in the first quarter. Rollins continued to extend its lead, eventually pulling ahead by eight points after a 10-0 run made it 16-8. The visitors maintained a comfortable lead throughout the quarter, ending the period leading 21-15.
Rollins increased its lead to as many as 13 points twice in the second quarter, but the Eagles ended the frame on a 5-0 run capped by an
Ashley McWilliams three-pointer that left the Blue and Gold trailing by a halftime score of 32-24.
Embry-Riddle outplayed the Tars for most of the third quarter and regained the lead (41-40) on a Whiting triple with 2:29 to play in the period. The lead changed hands three more times before the end of the quarter with Rollins retaking the lead with just over a minute remaining and finishing the period with a 50-48 advantage.
After a 24-point outburst in the third quarter, the Eagles managed just six points in the fourth, which allowed Rollins to pull away late and claim a 63-54 victory.
The Eagles return to the court on December 11 when they host Flagler at 10:45 a.m.
