DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 11
th-ranked Embry-Riddle baseball team, bounced back from a Sunday loss to 12
th-ranked Bellevue, to record a decisive 5-0 shutout of the Bruins, Monday at ERAU's Sliwa Stadium. The win marked Head Coach
Randy Stegall's 400
th career victory and improved the Eagles' record to 12-6 overall.
Clayton Wagner got the start for the third time this season and tossed eight strong innings, striking out six and allowing just five hits and one walk to improve his record to 2-1 on the year.
Bruin miscues helped the Blue and Gold score a run each in the third and fourth frames, but the Eagles did most of their damage in the fifth inning, plating three runs on two more errors and three hits, including
Logan Malphurs' first collegiate hit – a double to left field. After reaching on a single up the middle,
Tobias Moreno came around to score on
Joshua Garcia's single to right center field, and Garcia later crossed the plate on a throwing error that put
Enderson Velasquez on base.
The sixth batter of the inning,
Liam Goodall dealt with six pitches from starter Braulio Torres-Perez before sending a ball down the first base line. The Bruins' first baseman fielded the ball cleanly, but Goodall used his pace to beat the fielder to the bag to become the 22
nd member of ERAU's 150-hit club.
Torres-Perez (1-2) took the loss for the Bruins, who fell to 7-3 with the loss.
The Eagles return to conference play this weekend with a road trip to West Palm Beach to take on Northwood. The series begins with a single game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and concludes with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
