DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team led for 34 minutes on Saturday, but offensive rebounds haunted the Eagles (10-5) as the visiting Lynn Fighting Knights (8-7) grabbed 28 offensive boards en route to 23 second-chance points, including a crucial put back in the final 10 seconds as ERAU fell at home, 87-84. The Blue and Gold saw their shooting woes in the second half continue for the third straight game, shooting just 40 percent from the floor and 25 percent from deep while Lynn managed just 32 percent from the field, but attempted 17 more shots in the period than the Eagles.
Ognjen Miljkovic scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Eagles, but he was answered by Lynn's Fred Landers' 22 points as the Knights put four players in double-figures and shot 33 more shots than the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle opened the game on fire, sprinting out to a 10-2 lead on a Dillon Graham three-pointer, but the Knights rallied back and trimmed an 11-point deficit to six on a David Johnson layup. But the Eagles responded with their own run, going back up 11 at 31-20 on a Skyler Hogan trey.
ERAU took its biggest lead of the night when Joseph Gonzalez buried one of the Eagles' eight first-half threes, making it 38-25 with 6:06 left, but again the Knights came back, cutting the lead to one on a Jamal Palmer layup before Daniel Kiesling hit a triple with 36 seconds left. Pavle Raickovic made a jumper in the paint before the buzzer as ERAU took a 49-47 lead into the break.
In the second half, the game remained close for the first five minutes of the period, however, it was the home team that stretched their one-point lead with 15 minutes left to seven on a Miljkovic three, but the Eagles couldn't pull away as Lynn stormed back by going to Landers and crashing the offensive glass on every shot.
With a 76-73 lead at the 7:20 mark, the Eagles missed a shot on their offensive end before Landers tied the game with a long range conversion on the ensuing Lynn possession. Miljkovic gave the Eagles back a three-point cushion with the last ERAU triple of the night, but a quick 4-0 run by the Knights gave them their first lead of the period whne Russell Wilson made a layup with just over three minutes to go.
Dalton Barnes made a pair of free throws to retake the lead for Embry-Riddle, but Landers took it right back for the visitors with two makes of his own from the charity stripe with 2:54 left.
Both teams went cold from the field on their next few possessions, but after Barnes tied the game with a free throw with 69 seconds left, Raickovic returned the favor with a free throw of his own after Barnes was called for his fifth foul, giving Lynn an 85-84 lead.
ERAU turned the ball over on with 39 seconds left before Landers missed a jump shot on the other end, but as was the story of the entire game, an offensive rebounds and put back by Raickovic gave Lynn an 87-84 lead and Gonzalez's three attempt at the buzzer was well short as Lynn took the three-point victory.
The Eagles turned the ball over 17 times which led to 18 points for Lynn, and lost the rebounding battle, 49-35.
Joining Miljkovic in double-figures were Kiesling with 15, Gonzalez with 12 and both Barnes and Ridder with 11. Barnes grabbed a team-high eight boards and dished out seven of the Eagles' 20 assists.
