MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 26-24) decision at Florida Tech on Tuesday night. FIT improves to 6-13 on the year while the Eagles fall to 11-9.
Theresa Jordan led the team with 10 kills while
Amanda Saunders added six kills and 11 digs to go along with a match-high six blocks.
Olivia Roa picked up a match-best 16 digs and
Alyssa Rudd (16 assists) and
Jordan Nakayama (13 assists, six digs) quarterbacked the 6-2 offense.
The Panthers got the early jump on the Eagles, running out to a 9-3 lead. The Blue and Gold quickly went on a 5-0 spurt to pull within a point (9-8) and continued the run until it became a 9-1 burst that saw ERAU pull ahead in the lead 12-10. The Eagles held on to the lead until 23-22 when FIT scored three straight points to win the set, 25-23.
Set two saw the Eagles build up a fairly substantial lead (18-10), only to watch as Florida Tech chipped away at the deficit. The margin dwindled in the latter stages and the Panthers eventually won the final seven points to take the match, 26-24.
In the third set, FIT ran out to an early 10-5 lead and maintained its advantage throughout the frame. A kill from
Asya Oguz pulled the Eagles to within a point (15-14), but very quickly the Panthers regained a six-point advantage (21-15). The Blue and Gold rallied one final time to get back to within a single point (23-22), but Florida Tech was equal to the challenge, hanging on to win the set 26-24, completing the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles are back home this weekend to face Saint Leo on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. ERAU also hosts Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.
