DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In their 400th game played in the ICI Center, the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team handled Puerto Rico-Mayaguez to the tune of 97-76 on Saturday night. The Eagles (2-0) playing their second game in as many days pulled away midway through the first half and weren't threatened the rest of the game, moving to 339-61 all-time on their home floor. The Tarzans (0-1) had no answer for the Eagles' numerous offensive options as five different Eagles scored in double-figures, led by
Skyler Hogan's career-high 23.
The hosts came out sluggish to start the contest, falling behind 12-5 on a Ramon Calderon layup with 13:58 left in the first, but the Eagles responded with a 9-0 run, capped by a
Cole Hunter three to put the home team in front. After Hogan buried a triple to make it 17-14 at the 11:39 mark, the Eagles never trailed again, pushing the lead to eight on a pair of free throws from
Shaquan McArthur with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening period.
The Eagle advantage swelled to 14 on two more McArthur free throws at the eight-minute mark, and the Blue and Gold held the Tarzans at arm's length the rest of the half with Hunter's layup with 34 seconds to go accounting for the 53-36 halftime score.

Dillon Graham added 10 for the hosts.
The Tarzans never really made a run in the second half, and the closest they came to the Eagles was 13 when Luis Lopez connected on a trey with 13 minutes to play. However, Embry-Riddle was able to keep UPRM at bay and pulled away late, stretching the lead to 20 on a Hogan layup at the 6:22 mark, and then to 24, again on a Hogan layup a few possessions later.
The teams traded baskets, and especially free throws, over the final five minutes of the game, with the Eagles coming away with the final 21-point lead.
ERAU shot 54 percent for the game and went 20-for-27 from the charity stripe, while the Tarzans finished at 47 percent from the field and 10-for-18 at the line. The Eagles took care of UPRM on the boards, ending with a 43-29 advantage.
