Saint Leo Blanks @ERAUSOFTBALL 5-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle softball team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, falling to Saint Leo 5-0. Strong pitching from the Lions proved too much for the Eagles as Stephanie Adkins gave up just one hit and struck out 10 in seven complete innings for SLU. Following the game, the Eagles fall to 6-1 on the year while the Lions remain unbeaten at 7-0.

Saint Leo got on the board in the top of the second inning, which would prove to be the only run needed in the contest.  Brittany Creamer singled and made her way around the bases to score on a single from Rachael Heath.

The Eagles got their lone hit of the night in the bottom of the third inning. Anna Battison hit a ball hard towards second base and was able to beat the throw. She stole a base on the next pitch and nearly scored as Kailah Rain sent a ball to centerfield but Heath caught it on the run.

The Lions added two more in the top of the fourth inning as Ciera Schumaker lead off with a solo home run to right field. It was followed by a triple from Creamer and a double by Danielle Ferrara, which scored Creamer to give Saint Leo the three run advantage in the game.

Alice Donohoe came in to pitch for Robi Zimmerman in the top of the fifth inning. She forced the next three batters to ground out and the next three she faced in the bottom of the sixth inning all were caught by Natalie Morales and Rae Heuer in the outfield.

The Lions got ahold of Donohoe in the top of the seventh inning however as Heath and Pollard got on base to start the inning and Samantha Ohmie drove them in with a single up the middle.

The Eagles tried to make a last stretch comeback in the bottom of the inning. Kassidy Simons took first after getting hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on Gabriela Obia's walk but Adkins was able to get the outs and complete the shutout win for the Lions.

Embry-Riddle gets another shot at the Lions tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20, as Saint Leo returns for a doubleheader at the Embry-Riddle Softball Stadium. The games begin at 1 p.m.
