DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall on Sunday, completing the second round of the Lady Falcon Invitational hosted by Daytona State College. ERAU's blue team shot a 331 for a final total of 646 to place eighth, while the gold team finished 12th with a 361 for a two-round total of 729.
Host Daytona State shot a 292 to win the tournament with a 589, followed by Florida Tech's 603 (302-301). Seminole State (297-311=608), Florida Southern (304-313=617) and Florida Atlantic (308-320=628) rounded out the top five.
Kelly Harris shot a team-best 79 on Sunday, finishing 27th with a 160 (81-79) to lead the blue team.
Megan Pollenz ended up tied for 29th with a 162 (79-83) while
Lauren Thielen was one stroke behind with a 163 (76-87).
Marlena Weatherly (83-82=165) and
Camila Sierra (79-92=171) rounded out the scoring for the blue team.
"We got off to a little bit of a rough start today, but made some great comebacks as the day went on," Head Coach
Maria Lopez said. "We've got a great young team and I'm proud of our fight and resilience."
For the gold team,
Natalie Brooks improved by 11 strokes from Saturday with a team-low 83 to finish with a two-day total of 177 (94-83).
Christine Dominguez shot a 181 (84-97) in her first tournament as an Eagle, followed by
Abbey Trinca's 183 (94-89).
Kristen Holman (97-92=189) and
Lovisa Clausen (96-98=194) rounded out the gold team's efforts.
"Our gold team made a seven-shot improvement over yesterday, which is a great sign," Lopez said. "I'm seeing their confidence building as they continue to learn and grow, which is awesome to see."
Next up for the Eagles is the Guy Harvey Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern, which is slated for Oct. 10-11.
