@ERAUVolleyball’s Win Streak Snapped by No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday when the Eagles fell to No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17). The Eagles fell to 10-8, 5-7 in league play, while the Sailfish improved to 20-0, 12-0 in conference.

Melanie Canfield led all players with 12 kills while Paola Virella added seven kills and nine digs. Olivia Roa picked up a team-leading 15 digs and Alyssa Rudd racked up a match-high 29 assists to go along with 11 digs.

Palm Beach Atlantic took control of the first set with a 9-1 run that put PBA ahead, 13-5. The Eagles fought back and were able to trim the margin to four points after an 8-3 spurt made it 22-18, but the Sailfish earned three of the final four points to win the set, 25-19.

The Blue and Gold kept it close through the first half of set two, never trailing by more than three points and briefly grabbing the lead at 12-11. The frame remained tight until PBA closed it out with a 9-3 run to take the set, 25-18.

Palm Beach Atlantic was tough to slow down in the third set, as the Sailfish committed just one attack error and hit .452 in the frame. PBA opened up the set on a 9-2 run and never looked back. A kill from Rudd got ERAU to within five (13-8), but that was as close as it would be for the rest of the set and match, as the Sailfish finished the match with a 25-17 set three win.

The Eagles will be back on the road this weekend as they travel to Barry on Friday, Oct. 27, and Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Oct. 28. Friday's match is set for 7 p.m., with Saturday's match slated to start at 4 p.m.
