FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team lost for just the second time in its last eight matches on Saturday, falling in three sets at Nova Southeastern, 25-20, 25-22, 25-15. The loss drops ERAU's season record to 11-9, 6-8 in conference play, while the Sharks improve to 5-14, 3-9 in SSC matches.
Theresa Jordan led the Eagles with 10 kills and five blocks, while
Melanie Canfield chipped in nine kills and four digs.
Alyssa Rudd had 25 assists and
Olivia Roa picked up 13 digs.
Nova Southeastern scored the first four points of the match and never looked back in the first set, leading from start to finish. The Eagles took advantage of three straight NSU errors late in the set to pull within two points (22-20), but the Sharks scored the last three points of the set to win, 25-20.
Set two started out as a near-carbon copy of set one, with NSU scoring the first four points to get the early lead. The Blue and Gold rallied to take an 11-10 lead following a 5-1 spurt, but Nova Southeastern fought back and retook the lead for good after a 3-0 run put the home team ahead, 19-16. The Sharks pulled out to a 24-19 lead and survived a late scare to take the set by a 25-22 score.
The Eagles finally got off to a better start in the third set, scoring three of the first four points. ERAU maintained a slight lead in the early stages of the frame, but NSU turned the tables with a 15-2 run that gave the Sharks a commanding 21-10 lead. The Blue and Gold rattled off five straight points to trim the margin to 21-15, but Nova Southeastern was able to close out the match on a 4-0 run to clinch the set, 25-15.
Next up for the Eagles is a return home for the final two home matches of the season, beginning with a contest against Rollins on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
