ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team fell in three sets at Eckerd on Friday night, 25-19, 25-13, 25-21. With the loss, ERAU falls to 13-12 on the season and 8-11 in conference play, while EC improves to 16-11, 9-10 in SSC matches.
Theresa Jordan and
Melanie Canfield each had a team-high nine kills and 11 digs, while
Alyssa Rudd tallied 28 assists and 11 digs.
Olivia Roa picked up a match-high 24 digs.
The Tritons jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and maintained an advantage for the entirety of the frame. Back-to-back kills from Jordan brought the Blue and Gold within a point at 11-10, but Eckerd slowly pulled away from that point en route to a 25-19 win.
EC used a 6-0 spurt early in set two to build an early 11-3 lead and never looked back, outhitting the Eagles .270 to .059 as the Tritons took the frame, 25-13.
Set three was a similar story, with the home side running out to an 8-4 lead. Unlike the first two sets, the Eagles were able to mount a comeback in the third frame, going on a 7-1 run to take a 14-12 lead, their first of the match. Eckerd answered back with a 5-0 run a little bit later, turning a 16-15 deficit into a 20-16 advantage. Embry-Riddle got back to within two points but couldn't draw any closer, dropping the final set, 25-21.
The Eagles close out the 2017 season tomorrow at No. 23 Saint Leo. The match is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
