Hogan Breaks @ERAUMBasketball Scoring Mark, but No. 25 Barry Beats ERAU, 113-102

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2016-17 season came to a close on Saturday night for the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team, and despite a program-record 40 points from sophomore Skyler Hogan, the Eagles couldn't keep pace with Sunshine State Conference champion Barry, falling 113-102. The Eagles (16-10) saw the No. 25 Buccaneers (21-5) connect on 14 triples and go 21-for-24 at the free throw line en route to the season sweep of the Blue and Gold. Seniors Dalton Barnes, Dillon Graham and Drew Sciano all started for ERAU, donning the Blue and Gold for the final time in their collegiate careers.

Both teams shot the ball well as the Eagles matched the Bucs with a better than 53 percent clip from the floor, the difference being six extra shots for the visitors and 14 made threes compared to ERAU's 10.

Elvar Fridriksson started hot for the Bucs and would remain hot throughout the game, connecting on his first two three-pointers of the night for a 6-0 Barry lead. The Eagles responded with a 15-4 run over the next four minutes, capped by back-to-back-to-back treys by Barnes, Hogan and Graham as ERAU took a 15-10 lead.

Embry-Riddle grew the lead to double-digits a few minutes later when Luka Majstorovic made a layup off a Barnes' assist, pushing the advantage to 22-12, but the Bucs came right back with to cut the deficit to three on a Fridriksson three, until ERAU answered on the other end, going up 29-21 on a Majstorovic layup.

Barry outscored the Eagles 11-2 over the next two minutes, but ERAU was able to retake the lead on a Brian Johnson bucket, and later a Cole Hunter three at the 6:37 mark made it 38-36 Embry-Riddle.

Fridriksson's layup with just over five minutes left to play in the first gave the Bucs the lead for good at 41-39, and the visitors finished the half on an 18-6 run over the final five minutes of play, opening up a 59-45 lead at the break.

Fridriksson scored 26 in the opening half, while Adrian Gonzalez added 13 for the Bucs. Meanwhile, Hogan had 12 points for the Eagles, with Graham at eight in the first period.

The second half began with a Hogan jumper, but for every shot the Eagles made, the visitors had an answer, keeping the Eagles from truly getting back into the game as ERAU got no closer than 13 until the final seconds when Hogan hit a three right before the buzzer to break the program-record for points in a game.

Fridriksson finished with 37 points, nine assists and five rebounds, while Gonzalez added 30 points and seven boards.

For Embry-Riddle, Hogan's 40 points came on 12-of-23 shooting from the field and a 13-for-17 effort at the free throw line. Hogan, who now owns two of the three highest single-game scoring totals in school history, broke Sean Hester's 24-year old mark of 39 points against Nova Southeastern (Feb. 19, 1993). Hogan added seven rebounds and two assists, while Johnson went for a career-high 17 points off the bench. Graham, in his final game for the Eagles, scored 13 points with three assists, and Barnes finished with 10 points, eight assists, three rebounds and four steals. Majstorovic also reached double-figures with 12 points and seven rebounds. Sciano was good on his only three attempt of the game, recording two steals as well.

Graham wrapped up his two-year Eagle career averaging 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest after transferring to ERAU from the University of Florida. His 87.5 career free throw percentage ranks amongst the best of all-time for the Blue and Gold.

Barnes' four-year career with Embry-Riddle ends with 1,804 points, 631 rebounds, 511 assists and 214 steals. He is just the third Eagle in program history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists (Tom Fagley and DeForest Carter), and became just the third Eagle ever to record a triple-double when he did so against Nova Southeastern (Feb. 15). He ranks fifth all-time in points (1,804), fifth all-time in field goals made (677), seventh all-time in free throws made (354), sixth in assists (511) and sixth in steals (214). His 7.3 assists per game this season is the best single-season mark in program history, and his career 31.6 minutes per game ranks third all-time.
