ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team concluded the World Golf Invitational on Monday at the Slammer & Squire Golf Course, finishing in a tie for 12th place with 637 strokes over the two-day event. The Eagles shot a 320 in the second round after firing a first-round 317. ERAU ended up tied with West Florida, the 15th-ranked team in the country.
Barry won the tournament with a six-over 582 (289-293) followed by Florida Tech (290-299=589) and Saint Leo (297-299=596). Barry's Tilda Larsson topped the individual leaderboard, finishing with a three-under 141 (68-73), while Lynn's Samantha Barber finished one stroke behind (73-69=142) and BU's Noemie Pare (70-73=143) rounded out the top three.
Lauren Thielen had the low score for the Eagles with a 157 (78-79), two strokes ahead of Megan Pollenz (75-84=159). Kelly Harris had the best score of the day for ERAU with a 76 to finish with a 161 (85-76), which was equaled by Marlena Weatherly (79-82=161). Natalie Brooks improved by three strokes on Monday, finishing with a 169 (86-83).
"We started really strong today, lost a little momentum, but rallied at the end," said Head Coach Maria Lopez. "We had some nice comebacks today and I was impressed with how the girls dug in and fought. There are great things ahead for this group."
The Eagles return to the links in two weeks at the Lady Moc Invitational in Lakeland, which begins on Monday, Feb. 20.
