WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team closed out the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in 12th place on Tuesday after shooting a 338 in the third and final round. The Blue and Gold posted scores of 334 and 328 in the first two rounds on Monday, finishing the event with a team score of 1000.
"Today was not what we had hoped for as far as the team score, but we battled hard," Head Coach
Maria Lopez said. "We had some nice mid-round rallies and learned some lessons. We have some areas we can grow in and we will refocus to be ready for the next one."
Lauren Thielen carded a 79 on Tuesday to finish as the top Eagle finisher both in the final round and the tournament overall, tying for 43rd place with a 242 (85-78-79).
Camila Sierra ended up with a 253 (89-82-82), while
Megan Pollenz posted a 256 (84-84-88).
Kelly Harris was one shot behind Pollenz with a 257 (84-84-89) and
Marlena Weatherly rounded out the team with a 260 (81-89-90). Playing as an individual,
Natalie Brooks tied for 51st place with a 246 (75-88-83).
Nova Southeastern won the tournament by 17 strokes, posting a team score of 896 (298-297-301), with Montevallo taking second place (300-298-315=913) and Florida Tech finishing third (311-298-305=914). NSU's Michelle Ruiz was the individual medalist, shooting a two-over 218 (72-70-76), two strokes ahead of runner-up Brittany LaPadula from Florida Tech (72-71-77=220). Montevallo's Arin Eddy took third with a 221 (78-69-74).
Next up for the Eagles is the Buccaneer Invitational in Miami Shores, which begins on Monday, March 27.
