@ERAUSoftball Drops Two to Tampa

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team dropped a pair of games to Tampa on Saturday. The Eagles were shut out 2-0 in game one and 7-0 in game two. The Eagles are now 16-15 while the Spartans move to 21-5.

GAME ONE – UT 2, ERAU 0

The Spartans went three-up, three-down in the first inning. In the second inning, after putting two runners on base with two outs, an outfield error on a fly ball extended the inning and allowed two runners to come home and put the Spartans up 2-0.

Neither team was able to score in the remaining innings of the game. The Eagles had an opportunity to cut the deficit in the bottom of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out, but Tampa brought in a new pitcher who found two outs to end the inning and hold on to their lead.

The game ended in a 2-0 loss for the Eagles.

Ilona Andringa (10-7) got the loss after pitching the first two innings and giving up two runs on one hit and striking out five. Kassidy Simons pitched the final five innings and allowed only two hits and no runs and struck out three. The Eagles were limited to five singles, with Maggie Scott, Eryn Chester, Simons, Jayla Jackson and Destiny Carroll recording one hit apiece.

GAME TWO – UT 7, ERAU 0

The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after one runner was singled in.

The Eagles held the Spartans from scoring until the sixth inning when they managed to bring in two additional runs, building their lead to 3-0.

Tampa broke out in the seventh inning, scoring an additional four runs to make the score to 7-0.

The Eagles left four runners on base but could not push through any runs and the game ended in a 7-0 shutout.

Andringa (10-8) took the loss again after pitching the first two innings. She gave up one run and two hits with three walks and one strikeout. Simons tossed the final five innings giving up six runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. The Eagles managed four hits in the game with Scott, Chester, Kendall Funk and Hannah Thomas each tallying singles.

The Eagles hit the road on Wednesday, March 22 as they travel to West Palm Beach to face Keiser in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
