DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team dropped the first game of the series against Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday. The Sailfish came back from behind to defeat the Eagles 6-4 dropping the Blue and Gold's record to 18-16 and bumping PBA's overall record to 17-12.
The Eagles were the first to score with one run in the second inning.
Kailah Rain singled to left center,
Kendall Funk singled to right center and
Jayla Jackson reached on an outfield error to load the bases.
Gabriella Obia then came to the plate and singled in Rain for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Blue and Gold furthered their lead scoring three runs. With the bases loaded,
Destiny Carroll walked to bring in the first run and
Maggie Scott doubled in two additional runs, putting the Eagles up 4-0.
The Sailfish rallied in the sixth inning, knotting the game with four RBIs by three consecutive batters. With two outs, PBA pushed through one run on a wild pitch and then singled in another to take a 6-4 lead.
The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but could not push through any runs and the game ended in a 6-4 loss for ERAU.
Kassidy Simons (7-8) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits with three strikeouts after pitching the final 1.2 innings.
Ilona Andringa tossed the first 5.1 innings and also gave up three runs on four hits and struck out six. Scott finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Obia went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
The Eagles will battle PBA again tomorrow in a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.
