DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team took two from the Lander Bearcats on Wednesday. The Eagles shut out Lander 1-0 in game one and defeated the Bearcats 2-1 in game two. The Eagles improve to 10-11 while the Bearcats fall to 10-15.
GAME 1 – ERAU 1, LU 0
In the first inning,
Anna Battison reached first on a single to left field. She stole second and took third on a passed ball.
Kassidy Simons hit a single that allowed Battison to score what would prove to be the game-winning run.
Each team had ample opportunities to drive in additional runs but with runners left on base in all but one inning for each team, the game ended in a 1-0 win for the Blue and Gold.
Ilona Andringa (7-5) earned the win with her second career shutout, striking out four and giving up two hits. Simons went 1-for-2 with the sole RBI while Battison finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored the single run for the Eagles.
GAME 2 – ERAU 2, LU 1
The Eagles were the first to take the lead again with one run scored in the bottom of the first inning when Scott's sacrifice bunt brought Chester home on a squeeze play.
Embry-Riddle held its one-run lead until the fifth inning when Lander pushed one run through on a fielding error.
With the game tied 1-1,
Natalie Morales got on base on an error, was advanced by
Destiny Carroll's sacrifice bunt and was singled in by Chester, giving the Eagles back their one-run lead.
Only one Bearcat reached base in the final two innings and they remained unable to knock the tying run in, ending the game in a 2-1 victory for Embry-Riddle.
Simons (3-6) got the win for the Eagles giving up one run off of four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Eryn Chester was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Eagles hit the road on Friday, March 10 to face Florida Southern in Lakeland at 6 p.m.
