DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's golf team closed out the 2016-17 season on Sunday with a solid final round at the Bash at the Beach to finish second as a team. Individually,
Megan Pollenz tied Stetson's Kristine Odaiyar for first before falling to Odaiyar in a two-hole playoff for the individual medalist. The Eagles aslo shattered their season-low round with a 301, 13 strokes lower than their 314 in round one, which was their previous season-low round.
"What an amazing end to the season," Head Coach
Maria Lopez said. "We broke out season record yesterday and then we smashed it today with a 301! Our little team has weathered some storms and I think we've gotten better by believing each day will be better than yesterday. I'm so proud of the personal records we set today, but most importantly, I love the attitude, gratefulness, resilience, and love that this team has shown."
Pollenz fired a 74 on Sunday to finish at one-over (73-74=147) for the tournament, marking her personal-best place and score for a 36-hole tournament.
Lauren Thielen had the low round of the day Sunday with a one-under 72 to move up to a tie for fourth place with a 151 (79-72), which is also her personal-best place and score.
Marlena Weatherly also recorded PR's for place and score by posting a 77 to finish ninth with a 156 (79-77), while
Camila Sierra (86-78) and
Kelly Harris (83-81) each posted 164s to tie for 13th.
Kristen Holman set a new personal best with an 80 just one day after setting her previous collegiate PR with an 84 in round one. She finished tied for 13th, her highest finish, with a 164 (84-80).
Natalie Brooks finished with a 177 (89-88) and
Christine Dominguez and
Lovisa Clausen each posted identical 87-92=179s to round out the "B" team.
Stetson won the tournament with a 604 (291-313), followed by ERAU's "A" team (314-301=615) and Illinois-Springfield (323-316=639). Eastern Florida State shot a 673 (333-340) while ERAU's "B" team posted a 699 (347-352).
Pollenz (73-74) and Odaiyar (72-75) tied for first individually with one-over 147s before Odaiyar won the playoff. Stetson's Erikah Neger was third with a 149 (73-76) while SU's Eilidh Watson (73-78=151) and ERAU's Thielen (79-72=151) tied for fourth place.
