@ERAUBaseball Drops Road Finale to Pirates, 11-8

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Despite a five-run lead with five outs to go, the Embry-Riddle baseball team found itself on the losing end of its 2017 road finale, losing 11-8 to Armstrong State on Tuesday. The Eagles (13-32) held an 8-3 lead entering the bottom of the eighth, but the Pirates (22-23) scored eight times in the inning to come away with an 11-8 lead, one that the visitors couldn't erase in the ninth.

ERAU struck first as Kyle Guttveg touched home on a Jonathan Camp RBI single in the top of the first. It marked Camp's first hit and RBI since returning to the lineup following an 11-game absence. ASU quickly answered with a run of its own in the home half of the inning, and took a 2-1 lead in the second on a solo homer. However, Camp again delivered an RBI single in the third, scoring Guttveg again to tie things up before Robbie Hanlon scored on an error to make it 3-2 Eagles.

Troy Naab danced out of danger in the bottom of the third and the Eagle offense managed to score five runs in the fourth on just one hit, utilizing four walks and two errors to go along with a triple from Hanlon to take a commanding 8-2 lead.

The Pirates could scored just one run against Naab in the fourth as he kept the Eagles in front until he exited before the seventh.

Tim Retamoza pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Eagles, but the eighth was the Blue and Gold's undoing as a trio of pitchers tried to keep ERAU ahead, but ultimately failed, the big blow coming on a three-run homer that put ASU in front, 11-8.

The Eagles put the first two men on in the ninth, but a double play and subsequent ground out ended the game in the Pirates' favor.

Camp finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Hanlon went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Guttveg scored three times.

The Eagles return to Daytona Beach for their final four games, starting with Senior Night on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at Sliwa Stadium.
