@ERAUBaseball Knocks Off No. 15 Warriors on Senior Night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle baseball team celebrated five seniors prior to Wednesday's game, and then proceeded to celebrate a 10-6 win over NAIA No. 15 Webber International to snap a 12-game home losing streak at Sliwa Stadium. The Eagles (14-32) used a big second inning and tacked on runs late while holding off the Warriors (36-13) to send seniors Kenny Burkhead, Jonathan Camp, Logan Malphurs, Ryan Maxon and A.J. Mazzurco out with a win on senior night.

Burkhead, who got the nod on the mound, stranded a pair of baserunners in the first before Zach Howard drove in the game's first run with a single to right center, bringing in Robbie Hanlon from third for a 1-0 lead.

Burkhead kept the momentum with the home side by leaving the bases full in the top of the second, inducing a groundout to bring ERAU back into the dugout with the one-run advantage.

Embry-Riddle busted out offensively in the last of the second, scoring six runs on three hits and a Warrior error en route to a 7-0 lead. After an error allowed Maxon to reach first and load the bases with no outs, Malphurs delivered a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0 before Hanlon doubled to left center, plating two more Eagle runs for a 4-0 cushion. After Hanlon stole third, Cole Habig reached on an infield RBI single before Howard tripled to the fence in right, pushing the lead to 6-0. Howard came home to score on a wild pitch during the next at-bat for the 7-0 advantage.

The visitors got one run in the third and they were able to chase Burkhead from the game in the fifth after he kept the scoreless in the fourth. With the score 7-2, Burkhead was relieved by Vincent Rosace and the Warriors managed two more runs in the frame to cut the Eagle lead to 7-4, but a line out to Habig at short ended the frame without anymore damage.

A beautifully executed first and third play by Maxon and Guttveg in the bottom of the fifth made it 8-4 as Guttveg slid safely home, and Aidan Brady registered a shutdown inning in the sixth by going three-up, three-down for the Blue and Gold.

Camp brought in the ninth ERAU run of the night with a single to left, scoring Hanlon, but WIU answered right back with a run of their own in the seventh for a 9-5 game.

Maxon doubled home Guttveg in the home seventh, accounting for the final Eagle run of the game as Webber pushed across a single, unearend run in the eighth off of Brady before Austin Lee faced the minimum in the ninth to secure the 10-6 victory.

Brady (3-3) got the win in three frames of relief, while Hanlon finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored and Howard went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Guttveg scored three times with two hits and Habig also collected a pair of base knocks.

The Eagles have the weekend off before hosting Lynn in the final 2017 series next weekend, starting with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, May 5 and a doubleheader on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m.
