DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Davenport (Mich.) remained the only undefeated team in Daytona Mitsubishi/Kia Shootout history with a 92-62 win over host Embry-Riddle on Saturday evening in the ICI Center. The Panthers (6-0) used a 57 percent shooting percentage and 50 points in the paint to claim their second tournament crown. DU also won the 2012 Shootout title. The Eagles (6-3) suffered their first home loss of the 2018-19 campaign.
The visitors came out on fire from the floor, making eight of their first 10 shots, going up 25-6 on Robbie Bramhill's three-pointer at the 12:36 mark. The Eagles stopped the run with a Luka Majstororvic layup, but Davenport held a comfortable lead throughout much of the first half, leading 33-20 with four minutes left in the period.
Elijah Jenkins hit a trey to start a 14-6 Eagle run to end the half as ERAU was able to trim the deficit to 39-34 at the break.
The Eagles stayed within 10 for the first few moments of the second half, but after
Alston Jones hit a jumper to make it 47-40 Davenport, the Panthers reeled off seven straight and 12 of the next 15 points to go up 59-43 at the 12-minute mark.
ERAU would get not closer the rest of the night as the Panthers, led by tournament MVP Avery Hudson and All-Tournament selections Dyllon Hudson-Emory and Khadim Dieng answered every Blue and Gold run.
Jones led the way for the Eagles with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists, while
Chris Murray added 10 points and eight rebounds. The pair were named to the All-Tournament roster.
Cj Henagan came off the bench to score 12 points for the Eagles.
ERAU will look to recover quickly when the Eagles jump into Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Rollins. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
