ANAHEIM, California - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team concluded its' three-game in three days trip to the D2CCA TipOff Classic on Sunday, suffering a 94-81 defeat to Lindenwood (Mo.). The Eagles (2-1) played even with the Lions (2-1) in the second half, but a 13-point halftime deficit proved too big to overcome as the Blue and Gold lost for the first time this season.
The Lions displayed an extremely efficient offensive attack on Sunday, shooting 57 percent from the field, including a scorching 69 percent in the first half en route to their 13-point win. The Eagles couldn't stop the Lions inside as LU scored more than half of its points in the paint (48).
Nashad Mackey made it 3-for-3 on the weekend with his third straight double-double, leading the Eagles with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while
Alston Jones scored 15 points with four assists and
Luka Majstorovic finish with 14 points and five boards.
It was actually ERAU that came out firing on all cylinders on offense, racing out to a 16-6 lead on a pair of Majstorovic free throws with 16 minutes to play in the first, but Lindenwood answered 14-2 run to tie the game at 18-18 before continuing the run and going out to a 26-20 lead on back-to-back three's.
Embry-Riddle was able to briefly tie the game at 27-27 on a Majstorovic jumper in the paint, but the Lions exploded over the last five minutes of the period, taking a two-point lead (39-37) out to 13 before the break (52-39), with the only points for the Eagles coming on single free throws from
Cole Hunter and
Cj Henagan.
ERAU was never able to get closer than 10 in the second half, despite shooting over 52 percent from the floor and 56 percent from long range in the closing half.
The Eagles will return to Daytona Beach before trekking to Cleveland, Tennessee for the Gulf South/Sunshine State Conference Classic, hosted by Lee (Tenn.). ERAU takes on host Lee on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. before playing West Georgia on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
