DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was unable to get by the fifth-ranked contingent from West Florida on Saturday, falling 9-0 to the Argonauts at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The loss moves the Eagles to 2-4, while UWF remains undefeated at 6-0.
Doubles play saw the UWF race out to a 3-0 lead. At the top position, 12
th-ranked Paola Coyos and Jordana Lujan topped
Maria Turrillo and
Kathryn Bock 8-1 for the first point of the day. Valeria Mantilla and Ines Nicault followed with an 8-3 win over
Georgina Wood and Sabrina Ehrenfort on court three, and Diana Vlad and Samantha Echevarria scored the Argonauts' third point with an 8-2 win over
Lydia Carter and Roberta Krvajica at the third spot.
Coyos, ranked 11
th in the singles poll, made the score 4-0 in favor of UWF with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Turrillo on court one. The match at No. 2 singles saw Nicault hold off Krvajica 6-3, 6-4 to score the clinching point.
The Eagles will be back in action at noon on Sunday when they travel to Melbourne to face Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference.
