DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite seven goals apiece from
Gillian Greenberg and
Mya Watson, the Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team couldn't come up with enough offense to outslug the visiting Davenport Panthers, who escaped with a 24-21 victory at the ERAU Lacrosse Field on Wednesday night. The Eagles drop to 3-1 on the season while DU improves to 2-1.
Greenberg and Watson each added two assists for game-leading totals of nine points each, while
McKenzie Jackson tallied four goals and a match-high eight draw controls.
Hannah Frund and
Cierra Kelley each picked up a team-high four ground balls and Frund racked up a match-best four caused turnovers.
The Eagles struck first on a Greenberg goal just over two minutes into the contest, but Davenport answered by scoring four goals in the next three minutes to pull ahead, 4-2. Greenberg and Watson tallied goals that tied it at 4-4, but a 7-0 Panther run gave the visitors a comfortable 11-4 advantage as the game neared the midway point of the first half. ERAU fought back with a 5-1 run that pulled the Eagles to within three (12-9) with 6:29 to play in the half, but Davenport maintained a decent cushion, eventually carrying a 16-11 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, DU extended its margin to 20-13 in the first 10 minutes, but a 6-1 ERAU spurt got the home side back in the game, trailing by just two goals (21-19) with 8:24 to play. The Eagles couldn't quite parlay the wave of momentum into a tie game, as the Panthers held at least a two-goal lead throughout the closing stages of the game, earning the 24-21 win.
The Eagles hit the road on Saturday, March 3, for a contest at Montevallo, beginning at 2 p.m.
