MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Despite one of their best shooting nights of the season, the Embry-Riddle Eagles couldn't keep up with the outside shooting of the Barry Buccaneers on Wednesday night, falling 89-73. The Eagles (10-13, 4-11 SSC) beat Barry (14-6, 10-5 SSC) less than a month ago in Daytona Beach, but the Bucs got revenge, thanks in large part to the play of Elvar Fridriksson who missed the team's previous matchup in January.
Fridriksson scord 25 points and dished out 10 assists as Barry connected on 50 percent of it's shots on the night, including 12 three-pointers, eight more than the Eagles. The hosts turned a close game early in the second half into a runaway win over the final 15 minutes, outscoring the Eagles by 10 to end the game.
Luka Majstorovic got the scoring started with a jumper in the paint 90 seconds into the contest, and the two teams played an even, mostly defensive, game for the first half.
An
Elijah Jenkins three at the eight-minute mark made it a one-point Barry lead at 13-12, and the Eagles twice took the lead around the five-minute mark, the last coming at 20-19 when
Rudy Bibb-Boyd made a jumper with 4:07 left.
Bibb-Boyd made a pair of free throws with 22 seconds before the half to account for the 32-29 halftime score.
Majstorovic made the Eagles' first four points of the second period, but Barry stayed in front, going up 42-35 when Sawyer Glick made a layup with 17:15 to go. However, the Eagles got five straight points from Nashad Mackey to keep pace with Barry.
After Majstorovic made a free throw to trim the deficit to 47-41 at the 14:56 mark, the Bucs went on a 20-6 run over the next four minutes, capped by a Johannes Dolven layup to put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
The Eagles struggled with turnovers, committing 18 that led to 21 points for the Bucs, while Barry recorded only five turnovers in the game.
Majstorovic and Bibb-Boyd each had 18 points for the Eagles, while Jenkins finished with 10 points and Mackey registered his 18th double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards.
