DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched its fifth win of the season in record time on Tuesday, downing Bluefield State 9-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles finished all nine matches in just one hour and 53 minutes to even their record at 5-5. Bluefield State falls to 0-14 on the year.
It took just 29 minutes for ERAU's second flight duo of
Georgina Wood and Sabrina Ehrenfort to register the first point of the day with their 8-1 defeat of Sophie Bygrave and Kelsi Browning.
Maria Turrillo and
Kathryn Bock followed with an 8-0 shutout of Milica Knezevic and Milica Kmjaja on court one and the Eagles picked up their third point when the Big Blues defaulted at No. 3 doubles.
With only five available players, BSC also had to default at No. 6 singles, extending the Eagle advantage to 4-0. Turrillo was efficient in her singles win over Bygrave at the top spot, dispatching the BSC freshman 6-0, 6-0 in 40 minutes to score the clinching point.
Wood was next off the court after blanking Kmjaja 6-0, 6-0 on court three, and she was followed quickly by Bock who also registered a shutout against Combs at the fifth position. Ehrenfort defeated Browning 6-1, 6-0 and Krvajica secured the ERAU shutout with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Knezevic on court two.
The Eagles return to the court at 1 p.m. on Wednesday to battle NAIA No. 3 Keiser at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
