Trio of Three-Run Homers Lifts @ERAUBaseball to First SSC Win, 13-10

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Kyle Marsh, Luis Olivier and Cole Habig each hit three-run home runs on Sunday afternoon at Seminick-Hall Field as the Embry-Riddle baseball team got its first-ever Sunshine State Conference win with a 13-10 victory over Florida Tech. The Eagles (10-16, 1-8) took the series finale from the Panthers (12-16, 4-8) with their offense, collecting 15 hits and 11 RBIs on the day.

Jake Malone and Kyle Guttveg each singled to start the top of the first for the Eagles before Marsh hit his fifth homer of the season, his first on the road, for a 3-0 lead, and the Eagles would never trail in the game. Olivier followed with a double and Alex Dodd brought him in with his own double, pushing the Blue and Gold lead to 4-0.

Florida Tech got a couple runs in the home first, but ERAU answered with a three-run second, all coming on Olivier's jack to left center, plating Marsh and Guttveg for a 7-2 Embry-Riddle lead.

Once again the Panthers were able to respond, scoring three of their own in the bottom of the second, and after the Eagles went quiet in the third, FIT got a solo homer to trim the ERAU advantage to 7-6.

Marsh manufactured a run in the fourth when he started the frame with a single before stealing second and then advancing to third on an errant throw from the FIT pitcher. Marsh then scampered home on a wild pitch, growing the Blue and Gold cushion to two runs.

Habig's first big fly of the season came in the fifth when he greeted new FIT pitcher Matt Coles with the Eagles' third three-run long ball of the game after Justin Franklin walked and Cody Bogart doubled, making it 11-6 Embry-Riddle.

Cody Crouse worked a scoreless fifth for the Eagles, but the home team got a three-run homer of its own in the sixth to get within 11-9 before Crouse got out of the inning.

Malone brought in Habig with a single up the middle in the top of the seventh and Habig had doubled with two outs, once again giving the Eagles a three-run lead.

J.C. Carrell came in for Crouse to start the seventh, giving up just one run and then got the first two outs of the eighth before Aidan Brady relieved him to record the final out of the frame.

The visitors tacked on one more insurance run in the ninth when Habig scored because of an error, and Brady was able to work around a hit batter in the bottom of the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Marsh finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored, continuing his hot streak over the last six games in which he is hitting .520 for the Eagles. Both Olivier and Habig were also 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Dodd and Malone also collected multiple hits. Crouse (2-2) got the win, going six innings for ERAU before Carrell and Brady closed things out.

ERAU returns to Daytona Beach to play host to No. 4 Florida Southern next week, starting with a single game on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. and concluding with a doubleheader on Friday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
