@ERAUSoftball Winning Streaks Ends After Splitting Doubleheader Against Young Harris

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team was completing a 12 game homestand on Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles went up against the Young Harris Mountain Lions. The teams split the doubleheader with the Eagles winning game one 11-3 in five innings, while the Mountain Lions won game two 5-2. ERAU moves to 16-4 overall were as Young Harris goes to 17-8.
 
Game 1
 
The Blue and Gold were fantastic at the dish in the first game of the afternoon, scoring three runs in three different innings. Both teams scored one run each in the first frame. Young Harris scored another run in the second off a wild pitch. However, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Maggie Scott reached on an error, allowing Destiny Carroll to score. Katy Thompson grounded out to first, bringing in Mackie Chandler. Scott scored thanks to a Mariana Pereira RBI single to right. ERAU lead 4-2 after two innings of play.
 
The Mountain Lions final run of the game came in the third after two costly errors by Embry-Riddle. The Eagles made up for their mistakes, scoring three more runs in the third. Scott hit an RBI single to third to drive in Carroll. Kailah Rain had a two-RBI single to left to score Chandler and Scott. ERAU tacked on another run in the fourth off a fielding error by the Young Harris third basewomen. Going into the fifth, the Eagles lead 8-3.
 
Embry-Riddle put the mercy rule into effect, scoring three-runs more runs in the fifth. Kailah Rain tripled to center bringing in Scott. Thompson executed the squeeze play perfectly, allowing Rain to score and she reached first base safely. Carroll sealed the victory for the Blue and Gold with an RBI single to right. Ilona Andringa won her 10th game of the season by pitching a complete game, allowing three runs off five hits and struck out four. 
 
Four different Eagles had at least two hits in the contest, Kailah Rain lead the way as she went 3-4 with one run and three RBIs. Destiny Carroll hit 2-2 with three runs and one RBI. Maggie Scott went 2-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Mackie Chandler went 2-3 and scored two runs. Katy Thompson hit 1-3 with two runs and two RBIs. This would be the eighth victory in a row for Embry-Riddle.
 
Game 2
 
Things were drastically different in the second game of today's action as the Eagles had to play from behind the entire contest. Young Harris scored a run in the top of the first off an RBI single to center. The Mountain Lions put up two more runs in the fourth thanks to an RBI double and RBI single. ERAU was down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles brought it within one, scoring two runs in the fourth. Mackie Chandler drove in two runs on a bases-loaded single to center, scoring Pereira and Peqe Lopez on the play.
 
Unfortunately, Young Harris tallied two more runs in the top of the seventh. The first run came off a squeeze bunt and the second due to a bases-loaded walk. Embry-Riddle failed to score in the bottom of the seventh and lost by a final score of 5-2. Jayla Jackson picks up her first loss of the season, falling to 4-1 overall. Jackson pitched six innings, allowed five runs off four walks and struck out four.
 
Mackie Chandler drove in the only two runs of the game, going 2-3 at the plate. Maggie Scott went 1-4, Kailah Rain went 1-4, Mariana Pereira went 1-3 and Peqe Lopez hit 1-2 and scored once. Embry-Riddle returns to action on Friday, March 9 to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech. The two schools will play a three-game series in Melbourne, with one game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of Friday's game is scheduled for 2 pm.
