MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team hit the road for a three-game series against the Florida Tech Panthers. The Eagles struggled offensively as the game was a pitching duel the entire way through. The Panthers managed to score two runs and defeated ERAU by a final score of 2-0. The Eagles fall to 16-5 overall while Florida Tech improves to 13-11.
Neither team could mustard up any offense, combining for only nine hits in the contest. The Eagles had their first two baserunners in the top of the third,
Destiny Carroll and
Lisa Hop both singled to put runners on second and first with no outs. The next three batters could not capitalize on the opportunity and left Carroll and Hop stranded. Embry-Riddle left two more runners on base in the top of the fourth. In total, the Eagles left six runners on base with no one advancing past second.
The Panthers only managed four hits in the game but put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Florida Tech scored thanks to a sacrifice fly to center and an RBI double to left.
Eryn Chester managed to single in the top of the seventh, but that's a close as the comeback came as the Eagles lost 2-0. This was the Sunshine State Conference loss of the season for ERAU, falling to 8-1 in conference play.
Ilona Andringa started the ballgame for the Blue and Gold as pitching the entire game. Unfortunately, she lost her fourth game of the season, pitching six innings, allowing four hits, had zero earned runs and struck out seven.
Lisa Hop picked up two hits for eagles, going 2-3.
Katy Thompson and
Destiny Carroll both went 1-3.
Eryn Chester picked up the final hit, going 1-1 with a pinch-hit single.
The Eagles will conclude their three-game series with the Florida Tech tomorrow, March 10, with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 pm.
