DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team concluded its six-game home stand on Sunday morning against Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn University. The Eagles held off a late comeback attempt by the Knights, winning by a final score of 6-4. ERAU has now won three games in a row to improve to 30-12 overall and 18-9 in SSC play while Lynn falls to 22-22 and 10-14 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold put the pressure on in the early going, scoring one run in the first and two in second.
Katy Thompson drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single.
Maggie Scott and
Mackie Chandler picked up RBIs in the second, increasing the Eagle lead to 3-0 going into the third.
Lisa Hop kept the offense rolling in the fourth with an RBI single to left while Chandler picked up her second RBI of the game with a single to left. Through four innings of play, the Eagles were up 5-0 and
Ilona Andringa had a no-hitter.
The Knights picked up their first hit of the game in the top of the fifth with a single to center.
The Eagles tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth with
Peqe Lopez hitting a sacrifice fly to right, scoring
Mariana Pereira on the play. ERAU and the Knights both went scoreless in the sixth, and the score was 6-0 in favor of the Eagles going into the seventh.
Lynn would not go down without a fight, as the Knights scored four runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a grand slam by Elizabeth Diaz. However, that was as close as the Knights would come as the Eagles went on to win 6-4.
Andringa pitched a complete game, allowed four runs (all earned), off four hits, one walk and struck out 10.
Destiny Carroll and Thompson each went 2-for-3 with Carroll scoring twice, while Thompson stole a base and drove in one. Chandler went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Kailah Rain and Scott each went 1-for-4 with Rain scoring once and Scott driving in one.
Embry-Riddle returns to action when they travel to Miami Shores on Friday, April 20 to take on Barry University in a three-game series. The teams will play a single game on Friday with first pitched scheduled for 6 p.m.
