DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team looked to snap a five-game losing streak on Friday afternoon as the Eagles went up against Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins College. ERAU dominated throughout, defeating the Tars 10-0 in five innings of play. The Eagles improve to 26-11 overall and 13-8 in SSC play while Rollins falls to 22-18 and 8-11 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold scored at least one run in every inning except for the first. The Eagles first run came in the bottom of the second,
Destiny Carroll singled up the middle to knock in
Katy Thompson. Embry-Riddle tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third as
Kailah Rain hit a two-run triple off the center field wall. Rain scored after
Mariana Pereira grounded out, giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead going into the fourth.
The Eagles scored three more runs in the fourth with
Maggie Scott hitting an RBI single to center. Rain drew a walk with the bases loaded, increasing the lead to 6-0. Pereira drove in the final in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center. Going into the fifth, the Eagles were in control 7-0.
Maggie Scott worked the count to 3-1 against Abby Summers with runners on second and third. Scott ended the game on the next pitch, crushing her first home run of the season on a three-run bomb to center field for the 10-0 victory.
Ilona Andringa was spectacular in the circle for the Blue and Gold, pitching five innings, surrendered two hits, one walk and struck out seven batters. Andringa has now won 17 games this season and has accumulated 170 strikeouts to this point in the season. Scott went 3-4 with one home run, scoring three runs and driving in four. Rain and Carroll both went 2-2 as Rain scored once and drove in three while Carroll scored twice and drove in one.
Embry-Riddle returns to action on tomorrow, April 7, to complete the three-game series against Rollins College. It will be a doubleheader with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 pm.
