Women’s Tennis Drops 6-2 Match to No. 11 Saint Leo

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's team was unable to pull out a win in the final home match of 2018 on Saturday. The last match at the Crotty Tennis Complex for seniors Kathryn Bock and Lydia Carter saw the Eagles fall to 11th-ranked Saint Leo, 6-2, in a Sunshine State Conference match-up.

The Eagles are now 6-12 overall and 1-8 in SSC play. Saint Leo is 14-5 on the year and the Lions own a 5-3 conference record.

The first point of the day went to the Eagles as ERAU's top-flight tandem of Bock and Maria Turrillo and took down 16th-ranked Maja Pindelska and Madeleine Gauthier 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Robert Krvajica and Georgina Wood raced out to a 5-0 lead, but Marta Vicens Miquel and Andrada Gordon erased the deficit to win 8-6. At the third position, Sophie Vlietstra and Kristyna Jurkova held off Carter and Sabrina Ehrenfort 8-6 to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage heading into doubles.

Gordan won Saint Leo's first singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bock on court five. Jurkova followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Krvajica on court two and 19th-ranked Miquel topped Turrillo 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the Lion victory.

Carter led Vlietstra 4-3 before retiring with an injury and Ehrenfort tallied the lone singles point for ERAU, defeating Cardenas 6-4, 6-2 at the fourth spot.

The Blue and Gold will wrap up conference play at 1 p.m. on Sunday when they travel to West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic.
