DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Lady Falcon Invitational, serving as the Embry-Riddle women's golf team's 2018-19 season opener, came to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Eagles' Blue team shot a 318 in their third round of the event and the Embry-Riddle Gold team finished play with a 350.

After a rough opening round, the Blue team played rounds two and three nearly even with the rest of the field, shooting a 634 total on Saturday and Sunday, three shots better than NCAA II No. 7 and Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn over the final two rounds. Seminole State won the 10-team event with a 917, followed by the SSC's Florida Southern (924) and host Daytona State (924) who tied for second. Bethune-Cookman (933) and Lynn (933) rounded out the top five.

It was Lauren Thielen who led the way for the Blue team on Sunday with a 76, finishing the tournament in a tie for 28th overall with a 241 (86-79-76). Megan Pollenz was the Blue team's low scorer for the tournament with a 238 (81-75-82), placing 22nd. Erika Shellenberger shaved seven strokes off her first and second round scores with a final day 79, finishing with a 251 (86-86-79). Kelly Harris (86-79-81=246) and Natalie Brooks (83-83-88=254) rounded out the Eagles' Blue team.

For the ERAU Gold team, it was freshman Olivia Whitten pacing the squad on Sunday with an 82 (84-94-82=260), with Camila Sierra having the best three-round total on the team with a 254 (81-84-89). Kristen Holman (91-84-91=266) and Daniela Pena (93-85-88=266) also competed for the Eagles on the Gold team.

"Our first event of the season in the books," Head Coach Maria Lopez said "I thought we had a really solid and respectable start to the year. I'm very proud of the grit our team played with this weekend. We got some great experience, and some exposure to what we can do better and a little bit of swagger that we can persevere and come back."

The Eagles will make the switch from LPGA International to the PGA National Golf Club for their next tournament when they participate in the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern. The first round is slated for Monday, Oct. 8 in Palm Beach.
